Kratix: The Framework
For Building Your Platform
Kratix is a framework that enables the co-creation of platform capabilities tailored to your organisation.
Kratix provides a clear contract between application and platform teams through the definition and creation of “Promises”.
With over 40 years of experience between them, Syntasso's founders believe there is a better way to build platforms.
In 2021 we created Kratix to make it easy to create platforms that help your business go faster, decrease risk and increase efficiency
THREE ESSENTIAL PIECES
OF THE PLATFORM PUZZLE
Kratix
Promises
💰 Kratix Promises are the building blocks that enable platform teams to design and offer services that enable developers to ship software faster.
🤖 A Promise encapsulates all the required steps for deploying a service and handling the toil of orchestrating related low-level tasks.
🧑💻 A Promise is an API contract between the Platform and its users.
Kratix
Workflows
💰 Kratix Workflows are a sequence of steps that codify organisational policy, compliance, and governance, enabling consistent application.
🤖 Workflows are defined declaratively to orchestrate the provisioning and management of services and their dependencies.
🧑💻 Workflows define reusable actions (and "aspects") that hook into the Promise lifecycle.
Kratix Fleet
Management
💰 Kratix Fleet Management enables platform teams to oversee and orchestrate clusters as a "fleet," improving consistency and reliability.
🤖 Fleet Management is designed to simplify operations across different environments, clusters, and geographic locations.
🧑💻 Kratix uses GitOps principles to continually reconcile platforms.
3 COMMON
USE CASES
Supercharge Backstage to support teams
on day 1, day 2, and day 2000
Organisations typically deploy portals like Backstage to deal with developer-focused day 1 issues, such as scaffolding new applications. Kratix provides the platform behind the portal, enabling the interface to be decoupled from service delivery. This also supports developers, SREs, DevOps teams, etc., to access a delightful interface from day 1 while also ensuring platform engineers can maintain the underlying platform and capabilities for day 2 and beyond.
Reduce sprawl and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
Ensuring clear ownership of infrastructure as code can be challenging, especially as the underlying platform grows. Localised issues often require fixes that have a global impact, as modules, boundaries, and team ownership blur. Kratix wraps IaC solutions, such as Terraform, and provides an incremental solution for regaining control.
Bridge siloes, promote inner source, and enable
co-creation of platform capabilities
Kratix provides a common framework, workflow, and guardrails for platform-building that enables effective collaboration across teams, departments, and traditional organisational silos. Platform engineers can create core services and set globally enforced governance. Application, SRE, and enabling teams can create additional reusable services, workflows, and policies and contribute these back to the core using an inner sourcing model.
BUILD PLATFORMS PEOPLE USE
Application Developers
Kratix enables you to leverage GitOps workflows and familiar Kubernetes-native constructs. It allows co-creation of capabilities by defining and creating Promises, establishing a clear contract between application and platform teams.

Platform Engineers
Our goal is to reduce the cognitive load of our engineers. Not just for application developers, but for our platform teams as well. In the division I work in we’re using open-source tools like Kratix, GitLab, Flux.

Organisation Leaders
One way I&O leaders can position platform engineering teams for success is by shifting from a project to product focus when managing infrastructure platforms, putting more of an emphasis on end-user value and innovation.

LET YOUR PLATFORM FULFIL ITS PROMISE
CHOOSE SERVICES TEAMS ALREADY LOVE
Enable teams to ship software quicker by composing existing applications, services, and infrastructure components available as Promises in the Kratix Marketplace.
Deploy Redis, AWS S3 buckets, cert-manager, and more within minutes.
SELF-SERVE VIA API, PORTAL, OR GITOPS
Get value from your platform by using the most appropriate user experience for the task at hand or the user's requirements.
Integrate services using APIs, deploy apps via a portal, and configure infrastructure using GitOps.
FREE ENGINEERS TO CREATE & SHARE
Enable multiple teams to co-create your platform using the popular inner source model of contribution.
Centalised platform engineering teams can source, test, and integrate services from across your organisation.
TAME THE FLEET: AUTOMATE WORKFLOWS
Encode and share policy, guardrails, and compliance requirements in Workflows.
Centralised platform teams can ensure policy is enforced globally, manage upgrades, and correct configuration drift as the underlying compute and cluster fleet scales.
